From Ragtime to Rap

The B-Side presents From Ragtime to Rap, a concert and discussion about the history of African American music in the USA.  The event will feature a performance of ragtime piano music by Reginald R. Robinson, composer, performer and MacArthur Genius Fellow.  He will be joined in a collaborative song by Jamall Bufford, an Ann Arbor native and LA based rapper.
Robinson and Bufford will also lead a discussion about African American music including minstrel shows, ragtime composition, the development of the blues, rap, and modern music production.
Admission is free.  The event is geared toward middle and high school aged students, but is open to all ages.
