Jay Sloan

Jay Sloan (they/them) is a passionate and dedicated Youth Driven Spaces Manager with ana academic and professional background in social work. With 8 years of experience working directly with youth in various settings, they are committed to creating inclusive, empowering environments where young people can thrive and collaborating with other organizations to that end.

Upon Graduating with their master’s degree in Social Work from Eastern Michigan University, Jay pursued a life long commitment to pour into the communities that poured into them over the years. This led them to a role as the Youth Development Coordinator at Ozone House in Ypsilanti, MI. Through that work, they were able to collaborate with Neutral zone’s Youth Driven Spaces programming to help establish and foster a Youth Advisory Board. This foundational experience shaped their approach to managing spaces that foster creativity, collaboration, and community engagement.

In their current role, they focus on developing programs that not only encourage personal growth but also promote social justice and equity among young people. By bridging the gap between youth needs and community resources, Jay is part of a team that ensures that every voice is heard and valued.

This passion for mentorship drives initiatives that empower young leaders to take charge of their own narratives and spaces while building resilience in the face of challenges. Through workshops, events, and collaborative projects, they empower organizations, agencies, and institutions to connect with youth, uplift youth voice, and also encourage youth to connect with one another and co-create the spaces that they need.

When not busy cultivating dynamic spaces for youth engagement, you can find Jay exploring various mediums of creative expression, watching documentaries, trying a new cafe, or exploring nature trails—always seeking new ways to connect with the vibrant community surrounding them.
